Why study fitting and turning?
If you consider yourself a craftsman with a passion for manufacturing, constructing, and assembling components for machinery, then studying fitting and turning might be a good choice for you. Studying a course in fitting and turning will give you the opportunity to gain the skills you need to pursue a career in this direction. It will also give you the technical foundation that you need to branch out into other aspects of mechanical engineering, such as boilermaking or millwright work.
Once you have completed your N1 – N3 certificates, you could look for an apprenticeship as a fitter and turner, or you could study further to complete your N4 – N6 Fitting and Turning certificates. Once you have completed the practical component of your training (usually through an apprenticeship or learnership), you can take the relevant trade test to become a qualified artisan.
