1. What is distance learning?
Distance learning, or home study, is a form of education where students study from home, instead of attending classes. Students receive their study material via post or courier, or download it from the internet, and receive academic support from their instructors and tutors via telephone, e-mail, and post. 2. What is a TVET College?
TVET stands for ‘technical and vocational education and training’. It is an international educational term that is applied to certain post-school educational institutes. To read more about TVET colleges, please click here.

3. Is Oxbridge Academy accredited?

We are provisionally registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) until 31 December 2018 as a private college in terms of Section 31(3) of the FET Colleges Act 16 of 2006 and Regulation 12(4)(b) of the Regulations for the Registration of Private FET Colleges.  Our registration number is DHET-2009/FE07/070.

We are also recognised and/or accredited by various other bodies, including UMALUSI, QCTO, ICB, ETDP SETA, APPETD and Saiosh. To find out more about our accreditation, click here.

4. Are the courses accredited?
The courses at Oxbridge Academy range from non-accredited provider programmes to fully accredited National Qualifications.

5. What is a Provider Programme?
A Provider Programme is a course that is assessed and certified by the college itself. A Provider Programme is not registered on the NQF, and therefore does not carry any credits.

7. How long do the courses take to complete?
Please have a look at the relevant course information page to find out how long a particular course will take to complete.

8. How will I be assessed?
There are different methods of assessment for the different types of courses. In most cases, you will be assessed through a combination of written assignments and exams. (For most provider programmes, you will not be required to write any exams). The two main terms that you will come across are: a. Formative assessment: The assessment of a student’s progress at regular intervals, with accompanying feedback in order to help improve the student’s performance and skills. b. Summative assessment: A culminating assessment that gives information on a student’s mastery of content, knowledge or skills in the form of a controlled test, examination or portfolio.
9. What are the entrance criteria for the courses?
To study a course at Oxbridge Academy:

  • You need to be at least 16 years old
  • You need to be able to read and write in English

For certain courses, you need to meet additional entrance requirements. You can view these requirements by visiting the relevant course information pages.

11. Can I register for more than one course?
Yes, you can register for a maximum of two courses at a time. If you choose this option, you have to pay upfront in cash for at least one of the courses. However, we do not advise students to take more than one course at a time, especially if they are working full-time.
12. Can I study with Oxbridge Academy if I live outside South Africa?
Yes, you can study with us from outside South Africa, as you will be studying from home, and your assignments can be faxed, posted or e-mailed to us. As an international student, you will need to pay a non-refundable deposit of R2400 for your course at registration. This amount covers the registration fee and four of the course books.
13. Can I get my Matric through Oxbridge Academy?
While we do not offer Grade 12, we do offer Technical Matric and Bridging Courses, including an N3 Technical Matric course, as well as other courses that can help you get onto the same academic level as Matric.
14. Will I have to attend any classes?
No. All our courses are offered via distance learning, which means that you study in your own time from home.
15. Will there be someone to help me with my studies?
Yes, you will be able to e-mail a tutor for help whenever you need it, and a tutor will always respond to your request within 48 hours. You will also receive constructive feedback on each and every assignment that you submit to us during the course of your studies. Our goal is to give you all the help that you need to pass your course successfully.
16. How will I get my study material?
Your study material will be delivered to you via post or courier.
17. Will Oxbridge Academy help me to find a job after I complete my studies?
No, we do not do placements. However, we do try to assist you by issuing you with progress reports and other necessary documents to assist you in finding employment. We also give you advice on how to compile your CV, and we empower you with job-seeking skills. We have also partnered with Johnson Recruitment Agency to help you with the job-hunting process once you have completed your studies with us.
